NFL Execs Upset With Madonna's Halftime Show

By Michael Lopez

It may not be as bad as Janet Jackson's nipple, but M.I.A.'s middle finger did stir up quite a bit of backlash after yesterday's Super Bowl. Madonna’s halftime show collaborator has already angered the NFL, which issued a statement to sensitive fans who were watching yesterday's big game.

"The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said today.

Seeing how viewers of all ages watch the Super Bowl, we're certain the football org got swarmed with angry emails today. McCarthy went on to assure fans that M.I.A. did not use the gesture during any of the halftime rehearsals.

Nevertheless, the damage has been done and M.I.A. added another feather to her controversy cap. The 36-year-old rapper has already had videos censored on MTV and was even listed as a Homeland Security threat because of her outspoken political views. Perhaps Madge should've used Lourdes as her musical halftime cheerleader instead.

Do you think M.I.A.'s gesture went too far? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.

Critics Rate The Super Bowl's Best & Worst Commercials

By Michael Lopez

Believe it or not, advertisers were paying up to $3.5 million for 30 seconds of commercial time during Sunday's Super Bowl. And, for many of them, the expense paid off. Millions of viewers caught the big game and, on the day after, millions more are talking about the best and worst spots.

Clint Eastwood's Chrysler ad generated a huge amount of buzz. The iconic actor rarely appears on TV, let alone in commercials, but he made an exception for his "Halftime in America" spot. Taking on a patriotic tone, the 2-minute "mini-movie" featured an Eastwood narration emphasizing the importance of buying American cars. Yahoo critics praised his performance, calling it "genuine" and "heartfelt."

Another heavily praised spot featured one of our favorite Latinas, Adriana Lima. We mentioned earlier that Lima's Kia ad was being teased online, but the full promo took things to a whole new level. Built around dreams and fantasies, the big budget commercial featured Sandman special effects, a rockin' performance from Motley Crue, and Adriana waving the checkered flag down a Kia runway. Quite impressive, if you ask us.

Audi scored big points with critics too, with a creative ad tapping into the Twilight vampire trend. Touting new brighter headlights (and a #SoLongVampires Twitter hashtag), the car company went the comedy route, using their LED bulbs to burn up bloodsuckers at a late night campfire. We're sure it got major LOLs from everyone who's tired of the Bella and Edward craze.

Pepsi went the celebrity route, with a fairy tale inspired spot that featured Elton John, Flavor Flav and X-Factor winner Melanie Amauro. Many critics gave them an A for effort, even if the commercial felt a bit bizarre and unintelligible. Met Life used some animated stars to push its 2012 insurance plans, including faves like Charlie Brown, Scooby Doo, and Richie Rich. Definitely a nice attempt for Saturday morning nostalgia lovers.

And as far as the worst commercials are concerned, NBC's ad for Season 2 of The Voice seemed to be overwhelmingly unoriginal. Betty White scored huge kudos for her 2010 Super Bowl Snickers commercial, but that was then and this is now. Bringing out the 90-year-old Golden Girl again felt a bit stale to us (even though there were some interesting Christina Aguilera kung fu scenes).

Career Builder also seemed a bit unimaginative with their post halftime spot. Utilizing the good old "chimps in business suits" gag, they played the primate card a little too hard. Is it us or do monkey jokes seem to just be a cheap laugh these days? Perhaps they should have taken a cue from Volkswagen and incorporated some Star Wars dogs instead.

What was your favorite Super Bowl commercial this year? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.

Gisele Bundchen Criticizes Tom Brady's Teammates Over Patriots Loss

By Michael Lopez

Let the Super Bowl backlash begin! One day after the big game, New England fans are up in arms over comments made by Gisele Bundchen. The Brazilian beauty blamed the Patriot's loss on the team's receivers who failed to catch passes thrown by her hubby Tom Brady.

"You (have) to catch the ball when you're supposed to catch the ball," Gisele was overheard saying. "My husband cannot [expletive] throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."

It seems Wes Welker, Deion Branch, and Aaron Hernandez may be the key figures she was referring to. All three of them dropped key passes and Welker, in particular, missed one that may have cost the team the game.

Regardless, we can certainly see why Pats fans are upset. Pointing fingers will certainly not build camaraderie in the locker room, even if Bundchen's comments were made off the record.

Do you think Gisele was wrong to make those comments? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.

Victor Cruz & The Giants Dance Their Way To A Super Bowl Victory

By Michael Lopez

No one can deny that the Patriots and the Giants delivered one hell of a Super Bowl battle this past Sunday. In what proved to be an incredibly close game, the teams kept it tense until the last second, with New York edging out New England with a 21-17 win. And one of our faves, Victor Cruz, proved to be an essential part of the Giants' victory.

Latinos expecting to see Victor's trademark salsa dance were not disappointed. The Giants' wide receiver scored the game's first touchdown, slanting by James Ihedigbo into the end zone. He then got the crowd at Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium roaring when he broke out a few merengue moves.

But Latino fans rooting for New England got a major boost in the third quarter when tight end Aaron Hernandez scored a touchdown for the Patriots, putting them in the lead for a large portion of the game. Grabbing one of Tom Brady's razor-sharp passes, Hernandez got many NFL fans thinking the Giants were on their way out.

Then in the fourth quarter, things got intense again. Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker missed a vital catch with 3:46 left to play in the game. That gave New York possession and the opportunity to score the pivotal touchdown which won them the championship. Sure hardcore sports fans will be debating the play for ages, but if you ask us, it's all part of the game.

"It just feels great," Giants quarterback (and Super Bowl MVP) Eli Manning said after the win. "It was a great game with two great teams. We played to the very end. It was just a great effort on both sides. There were some big plays being made."

But for the hundred million viewers watching from around the world, Super Bowl XLVI was much more than a series of big plays. It was an experience. And one major component of it was the controversial Madonna halftime show. Many critics across the web lambasted the Material Girl for her "transparent" performance.

The L.A. Times criticized Madonna for putting too much emphasis on mediocre songs from her upcoming album and too little on her classic hits. But she did deliver a very precise show, choreographing every move to a science and throwing in familiar faces like Cee Lo Green and LMFAO to appeal to a wider audience.

Perhaps the most noteworthy moment was when M.I.A. stepped on the stage and flipped her middle finger to the NFL cam. Was it an artistic statement or a cheap vie for attention? We'll let you be the judge of that. But regardless, it all made for a memorable Bowl that we doubt fans will soon forget.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 3D

By Horacio Garcia

The assault of 3D technology to revamp classic action movies and especially kid's movies finally reached the Star Wars saga.

George Lucas is a methodical man, always covering his financial back so is not a surprise that after taking a big risk with the production of Red Tails (he put 60 million out of his own pocket…), Lucas is putting out there his biggest hit of all times for a new generation to see at the movie theater and especially for their parents to have an excuse to watch it again.

Yes, The Phantom Menace is the least loved of the series; yes, almost everybody hates Jar Jar Binks but I don't think any of the 50 or a hundred million fans (only in the USA) will miss it.

Truth is, besides all the complaining about the second series, the new movies were incorporated into the saga's pantheon because the original movies were as simple as the new ones. There is no doubt in my mind that is the original series were made today, it’d look very much like Phantom Menace (with the honorable exception of Empire Strikes Back, a dark, sober production with some of the best performances of the original three).

I really don’t know where the haters of Jar Jar Binks were when C3PO appeared for the first time because if that British-accented golden butler is not the most annoying character in the history of filmmaking it certainly must be in the top five.

We all know the flaws in Phantom Menace: weak dialogues, poor actor's direction (never George Lucas's strongest skill) the fact that the hero is 12, and of course; Jar Jar. They are all still there, but the reality is that Star Wars (any of them) is perfect for 3D.

On the onslaught of 3D adaptations that we have experienced lately some are more suited for the treatment than others. I just went to see Beauty and the Beast and before that, The Lion King, both with the new 3D make up and I must say that while The Lion is perfect for the technique, Beauty doesn’t gain that much. There are a couple of scenes that benefit a lot form it (especially when Belle and the Beast are dancing and the "camera" zooms down from the chandelier) but classic Walt Disney drawing is very good in itself and needs little help.

On the other hand The Phantom Menace is completely populated with perfect 3D scenes; from the first fight with the droids inside the Federation of Commerce Starship to the Victory Celebration at the very end. It really is a pleasure watching the blaster shots (that's the lasers for those who don't know Han Solo’s favorite weapon) coming straight at you from the screen. As the fellow movie goers in the row right below mine (ages 7 through 10) said: "Awesome!"

I have to agree with them; watching Star Wars on 3D is awesome, and this one is the least loved of the six! I just can't wait for the Empire to come back striking.

Lady Gaga's Dad's Restaurant Gets Bad Review

By Ikam Acosta

While Lady Gaga might be successful in the music industry, her father may not be so lucky as a restauranteur. Joe Germanotta's new Manhattan restaurant received horrible reviews on opening night.

Gaga's parents recently teamed up with Art Smith, Oprah's former personal chef, to open up an Italian restaurant in Manhattan's Upper West Side. The restaurant was named Joanne, which happens to be Lady Gaga's middle name.

New York Post restaurant critic Steve Cuozzo sampled the restaurant's cuisine during their big night, and he had no qualms writing about how much he despised it.

"You'll gag on the food at Gaga's," he stated.

While Cuozzo admits it isn't really fair to judge the full potential of the restaurant on opening night, he still had some pretty bad things to say.

"One-note orecchiette with shellfish recalled the the flacid pasta commonly doled out along Long Island's Jericho Turnpike- or at 35,000 feet. Unspeakably fatty veal osso bucco was $38. In a review the other day, I criticized the same dish at Caffe Storico, where it cost only $28. Come back, Caffe Storico! All is forgiven."

Not great for publicity. Despite all the celebrity connected with the restaurant, a bad review is a bad review.

Would you dine at Gaga's dad's new restaurant despite the negative reviews?

Can We Expect A New Kardashian Show?

By Ikam Acosta

Kim Kardashian has been making her rounds around Miami looking for a new location for her clothing store Dash. The original Dash South Florida store location was in Miami Beach.

The Miami Beach Dash first appeared on the Kardashian reality show Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami in 2009, when it was vandalized shortly after its grand opening. The first Dash store opened in 2006 in Calabasas, California and was featured in Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The girls also have another store in New York's SoHo district.

Kim was recently spotted shopping around for a new Miami location along with two of her friends. She also hinted on being Miami-bound in one of her tweets,

"Is Miami ready for us @larsapippen @lala @lorenridinger @JonathanCheban??? Gonna be fun!!!!"

She then tweeted,

"Just looked at some fab new spaces for Dash in Miami! Can't wait for the new Miami Dash store!"

Could this mean there is a new Kardahian reality show in the works? Perhaps next season Kim will be taking Miami all on her own.

Do you think Kim Kardashian is opening Dash for a new show in Miami?

Will Smith Hits Costa Rica To Film New SciFi Adventure

By Astrid Rivera

Get ready Costa Rica, the Smiths are coming to town! Will Smith and son, Jaden Smith are headed to the tropical paradise to begin filming their newest joint movie adventure, entitled After Earth.

The arrival of the Smiths in the northern region of the country has sparked tons of media attention and curiosity about the film itself. So far the controversial director M. Night Shyamalan has yet to release any details about the the film, except for a basic premise. A thousand years after the end of the world, a father and son (played by Will and Jaden) crash-land on a abandoned planet and must find a way to survive. The focus seems to be more on Jaden's character, suggesting that this could be a more coming-of-age story.

Shyamalan spent more than a year in preparation and is extremely excited to finally start production. The director tweeted,

"Crew leaving for Costa Rica already. A year and half of writing and prep is coming to an end. #After Earth will begin shooting on Feb. 6th."

Other actors set to star in the film are Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo and Hunger Games actress Isabelle Fuhrman. The local Costa Rican media is dying to capture a shot of the ongoing production but so far that task is impossible as the crew is shooting in a top secret location that is literally in the middle of nowhere.

So I guess we'll all have to wait until 2013 to find out what Shyamalan has in store for us. Hopefully this film will be more like the Sixth Sense or Signs and not like some of his flops (aka The Last Airbender, The Happening, Lady In The Water, etc). But the Smiths don't attach their name to just any project so there is still hope for this SciFi adventure.

Leslie Carter Suffered Apparent Overdose

By Ikam Acosta

Aaron Carter's sister, Leslie Carter, apparently died as a result of an overdose of prescription medication. Officials say the 25 year old had been diagnosed with depression, and they had found medication for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and muscle relaxers near her body.

Ginger Carter, Leslie's stepmother, was home with Leslie when she died on Tuesday in New York. She described how Leslie had confessed she was "not feeling great" that morning over coffee. Leslie then went into the bathroom. After a while, Ginger was concerned and checked up on her, only to find Leslie had fallen in the shower.

Ginger helped Leslie into bed, and eventually Leslie fell asleep. Ginger thought everything was okay, since Leslie "had all the color to her skin and was breathing." When Leslie's father came home, he found her unresponsive. He attempted CPR and called 911. She was pronounced dead later on at the hospital.

Ginger reportedly told authorities that Leslie had "a long history of mental illness" and seemed depressed before her death. Leslie was an aspiring singer and leaves her 10 month old baby behind.

Ginger was so distressed with Leslie's overdose, she took a bit too much medication herself. Authorities who interviewed the stepmother noticed she appeared to be under the influence and exhibited "slurred speech, pin-point pupils, glassy eyes and kept falling asleep." Ginger had apparently taken six pills, including Xanax, and the officer was concerned she might also suffer an overdose.

Officials are waiting on a toxicology report for Leslie Carter, and no information was given on whether Ginger received any medical attention after the incident.

Do you think Leslie suffered an accidental overdose, or does pill abuse tend to run in the Carter family?

Partying With Younger Crowd May Have Led Up To Demi's Medical Emergency

By Ikam Acosta

I'm sure by now everyone has heard about Demi Moore's medical emergency that landed her in the hospital last week. The actress was rushed to the hospital by paramedics after they received a 911 call concerning the actress going into seizures after allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide.

Several sources have come forward since then to comment on Demi's partying habits, particularly those concerning her going clubbing with people half her age. She has been spotted hanging out with her daughter Rumer and her younger friends at certain nightclubs, typically drinking Red Bull and hanging out until the wee hours of the night.

Demi's reckless partying has been rumored (see what I did there?) to have spawned from her desire to remain young, and possibly as a result of all the Ashton Kutcher drama from earlier last year.

Moore apparently attended several nightclubs this year, and finally ended up in the hospital after too many whip-its on January 23rd. She was even seen at a party Miley Cyrus threw for her boyfriend Liam, which featured an infamous penis cake. Why Miley would get a penis cake for her boyfriend is beyond me, but to each their own. Who knows what goes on in the minds of these Hollywood starlets.

Those who have commented on Demi's recent loss of control attribute it to her desperately wanting to hold on to a fading youth.

"It's not hard to connect the dots. The woman who became famous for what people thought was eternal youth became a believer in the illusion, and it manifested itself in various ways- partying with her daughter and her 20-something friends, obsessing over her body image, and finally using drugs that appeal to people more than half her age."

Do you think Demi is out of control trying to regain her youth, or is she just going through a post- breakup self-destructive phase?
