Yandel releases Who Against Me 2, his new album, 17 years after his great success

Seventeen years and several albums after her solo debut with the album « Who Against Me », Yandel presents the continuation of this production, « Who Against Me 2 », with 22 songs and 28 guests including J Balvin, Rubén Blades and Snoop Dogg.

The Puerto Rican reggaeton player, who rose to fame in the early 2000s as part of the Wisin & Yandel duo, wanted to make the most of his quarantined time to create something that differed from his previous albums, and locked himself in his studio at to compose.

« I said, ‘I am going to take advantage of the time I was going to waste doing concerts or taking planes and I’m going to make a lot, a lot of music.’ When I already had about 40 songs, then I said, ‘I’m going to start sending all my colleagues to see if they like any of the songs’ and everyone said ‘yes, let’s go over there, yes, go ahead’ .. It kind of flowed, « Yandel said Friday in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

« I had never made an album with so many artists, but to make a difference it had to be this way, » he added during a car trip to Miami from Orlando, Florida, where he lives.

Released under Yandel’s own label, Y Entertainment, the album opens with a song also titled “Who vs. Me” that begins with reference to the current situation: “Year 2020, a world full of uncertainty where you would like to wake up and say ‘all this It is a false illusion ‘, but it is reality and discouragement has become a habit, ”recites Yandel before offering a message of hope and self-improvement.

Of the 22 tracks, only two are versions of past hits: « Dembow 2020 », with Rauw Alejandro, and « Por mi reggae muero 2020 », with Anuel AA. The rest, all new songs, include “Espionaje”, the first single released in April, and “No te vayas” with J Balvin, whose video, filmed a month ago in Miami under the direction of Carlos Pérez (Elastic People), was released on Friday along with the album.

With Blades and Snoop Dogg he recorded « Fame », about a woman who leaves you « wanting more », like the celebrity. Also participating are Myke Towers, Natti Natasha and Darell, in “Diablo en mujer”; Ozuna, in « Dress up and put on makeup »; Manuel Turizo, in « Celda »; Maluma, in « What are you going to do »; Zion & Lennox, in « I forgot »; Pedro Capó, in “Private concert”; and Nicky Jam, in “No te lotaré”, among others.

« I feel very happy with the album. I think everyone said ‘present’ and all the artists were very happy when I told them about the idea of ​​doing ‘Who vs. Me 2’. As it brought back many memories, « said Yandel.

As a soloist, the Puerto Rican star has also released « From leader to legend » (2013), « Dangerous » (2015) and « #Update » (2019), while as part of the Wisin & Yandel duo he has more than a dozen albums , beginning with « The kings of the new millennium », from 2000.

The duo, who met in 2018 after a five-year hiatus in « Los Campeones del Pueblo: The Big Leagues », has an upcoming album titled « La gestión », and a tour that was originally planned for this year but that it was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic.
