Technology will make it possible for two queens of latin music, the Cuban sauce boat already deceased Celia Cruz and Puerto Rican reggaeton Ivy Queen, unite your voices in a virtual duet which will be the centerpiece of the Calle Ocho Live interactive festival.

“I am honored to sing one of her songs with Celia because she captivated me from the moment I first heard her incredible voice and also that she is synonymous with the highest values, sacrifices and the empowerment that music gives us all. Long live Celia Cruz, the Queen!”, Ivy Queen said in the statement to announce the duet.

Omer Pardillo Cid, president of the Celia Cruz Foundation, said that the greatest wish of the « queen of salsa » was that « her name would be kept alive for future generations and this special performance with an artist of the stature of Ivy Queen is something that will maintain its glorious legacy for decades to come. «

The song of Celia Cruz and Ivy Queen will be released on October 4 during the event that replaces the « Calle Ocho Music Festival », which is held in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami and this year it had to be canceled due to COVID- 19.

Instead, Calle Ocho Live will be held, a television show that can be seen on digital platforms associated with YouTube, Twitter, Periscope, TikTok and Twitch, among others, and will be broadcast simultaneously on VIVALIVE TV, ORA TV, BronxNet or Tarima, in addition of national partner channels.

The song that Ivy Queen is recording will be kept secret until the day of the event, which is co-produced by the Kiwanis of Little Havana charity, RetroPop Media and Atlantino, as announced in a statement Tuesday.

In addition to offering live and pre-recorded performances from top Latin music artists, celebrities, and social media personalities, Calle Ocho Live will also highlight the stories of families served by the Kiwanis and give viewers the opportunity to make donations.

Calle Ocho Live will be a three-hour interactive live streaming experience that will feature musical artists, entertainers, comedians, chefs, social media influencers and other surprise personalities, the statement said.

The public at home will have several options to participate live in the program, which is officially sponsored by Heineken.

The Kiwanis Foundation of Little Havana will use the money raised through Calle Ocho Live to help families in South Florida with college scholarships, emergency financial assistance, and other support needed during the COVID-19 crisis.
