Redskins hire Ron Rivera, franchise’s first-ever minority head coach
In less than 24 hours, the Washington Redskins completed a massive overhaul of the organization’s structure with the hiring of Ron Rivera as its new head coach. Rivera, who is of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent, is the first minority head coach in franchise history.
The Redskins are giving Rivera a 5-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The hire comes hours after team owner Dan Snyder released a statement that president and general manager Bruce Allen had been relieved of his duties and was no longer with the Washington Redskins franchise. Also, let go was long-time team trainer Larry Ness, who had worked for the Redskins over 17 years.
