Instagram post 2191599798443153038_1355582226 Visiting PR? There are many sunflower fields in PR. Above is a field in Lajas. Another spot to check out if you’re in southern Puerto Rico is 🌻 Finca El Girasol (Sunflower Farm) in Guanica. The plants are grown and harvested year round so even if some fields are cleared, there are usually at least 8-10 rows in bloom. They sell the cut sunflowers, seeds, shirts, and other locally-grown produce.

Guánica is known as "El Pueblo de las Doce Calles" (the town of the twelve streets). Guánica derives its name from the Taíno Indian term guaynia, which means "here is a place with water". #CaliricanTravels #visitpr #visitpuertorico #puertorico #discoverpuertorico #guanica #sunflower #sunflowers #sunflowerfield #sunflowerfarm
Instagram post 2181428358905540208_1355582226 🕯 RIP Vera Clemente 🙏
They say that behind every great man is a great woman, and it's certainly true. The world lost one of those great women on Saturday in Vera Clemente - the widow of Roberto Clemente. Clemente passed away in Puerto Rico on November 16.

Instagram post 2172000424998078922_1355582226 Visiting PR? Be sure to take a photo in front of 🇵🇷 el Callejon de la Puerta Bandera (Flag Door Alley) on Calle Imperial. You can get to Calle Imperial from Calle Norzagaray in Old San Juan.

You’ll notice that Calle Imperial (and most narrow streets in Old San Juan) are paved with adoquines (blue cobblestones). Instead of using stone or bricks, these cobblestones were made from slag from Spain’s iron factories. The adoquines were brought to Puerto Rico in sugar-carrying ships in the 16th century. Due to time, weather and traffic, they now have a characteristic shiny blueish-gray hue.

Instagram post 2161220908587554941_1355582226 I don't believe in failure. I believe every setback is an opportunity to learn, regroup, get stronger, and try again. This is my motto: Rejection is God's protection. When people feel that they have failed, it's usually because somebody or something caused them to feel that way and taste defeat. I refuse to dwell on that. - Roselyn Sanchez

Instagram post 2151674803353021191_1355582226 Visiting PR? Check out Playa Negra (Black Sand Beach) on the southern shore of Vieques. The beauty, privacy, and novel black sand make Playa Negra worth the visit. Areas on the island like Monte Pirata are volcanic and some of this volcanic material is washed down through a quebrada (stream) during heavy rains, ending up at Playa Negra. (So if it hasn’t rained in awhile during your visit, you may not find much black sand)

To get there if you’re driving from Esperanza head west on Rt. 996. At the end of the road make a left towards La Hueca on Rt. 201. Look for Kilometer sign 7.0 first, then you’ll get to the sign “Playa Negra”. There’s space for cars at the entry. The dirt road leading to Playa Negra is a stream. During rainy season there may be water and you’ll have to walk around the sides, so wear non-slip footwear. Another option is to take a long walk to Playa Negra from Esperanza Beach or Playa Grande. It’s a long walk but very scenic, just be careful if there are high tides 🌊

Instagram post 2137185444264331055_1355582226 Visiting PR? You must visit the 16th century fortress Castillo San Felipe del Morro also known as El Morro. El Morro is one of the most internationally known Puerto Rican historic landmarks, and is located on the northwestern tip of Old San Juan. The original fortress, constructed in 1540, guarded the entrance to San Juan Bay from pirates. As time passed, the Spanish added more walls and now the original round tower is in the inner heart of the fortress.

Those interested in history will enjoy the El Morro museum. You can either explore the fortress on your own or take a guided tour with a park ranger. The park is perfect for a family visit. The open field in front of the fortress is a popular site for locals’ kite flying. There are kites or chiringa for sale near the entrance of the fortress, if you want to get your child a special souvenir. El Morro also has a gift shop where you will find interesting items related to the history of the town.

Instagram post 2127036541904754086_1355582226 Visiting PR? If you’re adventurous and love nature, be sure to visit Puente La Hamaca in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. The hammock bridge over Lago Garzas was constructed from around 1936-1941, and you have to hike to get to this scenic location. You can also go kayaking, boating, or fishing in this lake.

Located in central Puerto Rico, Adjuntas is also known as la Ciudad del Gigante Dormido (the City of the Sleeping Giant) because of the silhouette formed by the mountains to the southeast of town. Adjuntas is a paradise for travelers who want to commune with nature at its most majestic since it is a wonderland of forests, rivers, lakes, and sheer natural magnificence. #CaliricanTravels #visitpr #visitpuertorico #puertorico #puentelahamaca #discoverpuertorico #adjuntas
