Four Salsa Headliners for 2016 FDLI
Northern California’s Largest Salsa Music & Dance Festival
Vacaville, CA – The Annual Festival de la Isla will bring some of today’s most exciting salsa performers to Northern California on Saturday, August 20th, 2016. The festival site is the historic Pena Adobe Park located at 1 Pena Adobe Road, just outside of Vacaville, California.
Also, every year, FDLI picks a Solano County-based charity to assist those in need of assistance. This year’s theme is “One Strong Family†in which attendees can help support the non-profit “The Father’s House†by bringing a can of food to assist those that are struggling in this tumultuous economy.
Thousands of Latin music enthusiasts from throughout California annually gather to share their love for the sights, sounds, taste and aromas of Puerto Rican music, dance, food and drink. The event runs from 10:00 am through 7:00 pm. It has become an annual tradition in which the Solano County Puerto Rican community comes together to celebrate culture, family and make new friends.
Four Salsa Music Legends Headline 2016 FDLI!
Ray Sepulveda – Born in Puerto Rico, Sepulveda ‘s family settled in New York. Sepulveda was inspired by Latin artists at a very young age, especially tropical performers. In addition, he was influenced by his father, who was a bolero singer. While a teenager, the artist joined a band called La Justicia, later participating in La Dictadura, singing along with Frankie Ruiz. In the mid-’70s Sepulveda got involved in the New York scene as part of La Sociedad, joining Adalberto Santiago in 1983. It was the Salsa Con Clase album that consolidated his career, yielding the hit single “Mascarada,” composed by Joan Sebastian, which climbed up the Latin charts; it was successfully followed by a second hit called “Bandolera.”
Johnny Rivera – his family settled in New York’s Bronx, and Rivera studied at Manhattan’s Benjamin Franklin High School. After a temporary visit to Puerto Rico, the artist returned to New York, getting involved in the tropical music scene. Rivera’s debut came in a compilation called Noche Caliente, singing “Terciopelo y Piedra,” soon after he joined Grupo Fascinación and later Conjunto Clásico. After signing up to RMM Records, his debut album, called Y Ahora de Verdad was released.
Nino Segura – was born in Puerto Rico. He was always surrounded by many musical instruments and as a child learned how to play the drums, guitar and cuatro. When he was 16 years old, Segura auditioned for the role of guitar player and was hired by a band called “The Monarc”, however a year later he joined another band “Mundo de Ponce” with whom he made his first recording and musical arrangement. He enrolled at the Inter-American University in San Germán, Puerto Rico, to study composition, musical arrangements and voice. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree with a major in music.
Segura began making musical arrangements for theater productions and symphony orchestras. By 1988, he had made arrangements for Andy Montañez, Marvin Santiago, Eddie Santiago, Oscar de Leon and many other salsa singers. Segarra also produced and made the musical arrangements for his own songs. Among them Con la Musica por dentro (With Music Inside), El Maestro (The Teacher), Solo por Tà (Only for you), Loco de Amor (Crazy for Love) and Porque te Amo (Because I Love You), which became a number one “hit” in the Hispanic community of the United States, Puerto Rico and Latin-America.
Hector Tricoche – Carrying the title of one of the Original Salsa Kings, Tricoche is an international musician of Puerto Rican descent who sings in the genre of Latin pop and salsa. With an impressively high and melodic voice for his physical stature and height, Hector Tricoche has stood out in the sleepy decade of the 1990s salsa scene through his richly textured and versatile musical compilations. Critics have praised him for combining a harmonious voice with the creative snappiness of an improvisation artist. Tricoche performed alongside the renowned Tommy Olivencia Orchestra for several years before embarking on a solo career. A highlight of Trichoce’s albums are the intricate and sophisticated horn arrangements. He has released no less than nine albums in the United States, and much more internationally.
